Board and Management

The South Australia Police Legacy Board includes a team of dedicated volunteers representating a broad cross-section of the police community, bringing a range of complementary skills and experience.

The Board's primary responsibility is to manage S.A. Police Legacy's finite resources judiciously in order to ensure it can meet the ongoing needs of Legatees and Wards.

Brian Smith (President)

Brian Smith

Brian has been a member of Police Legacy Board since 1996 and President since 2000. Commenced service in 1971 and is a Detective Chief Inspector in charge of the Port Adelaide C.I.B. Has served in SAPOL in a variety of areas. He believes the welfare of members and their family is paramount and is pleased that in times of need, Police Legacy can provide ongoing support.

Karl F Faeth (Manager)

Karl F Faeth

Karl is a retired Chief Inspector of Police having served for 35 years. He has been the Secretary of S.A. Police Legacy since 1992 and was appointed Manager and Treasurer in 2006. He is always keen to promote the services Police Legacy has to offer Legatees and Wards. Karl is committed to the provision of a caring and supportive lifestyle for all Legatees and Wards.

Sandra A Deakin

Sandra Deakin

The role of Liaison Officer first commenced in 1998. Sandra Deakin, a Police Widow, is the present incumbent and is responsible for maintaining regular communications with the many widows and children eligible for Police Legacy support. Sandra spends a great deal of her time visiting widows, either in their home, in a nursing home environment or in hospital, keeping them informed of the services available from Legacy. Sandra willingly arranges outings for widows and children, providing enjoyment and important social interaction.

Kathleen Wilkin

Kathleen Wilkin

Kath became a board member in 2001 after retiring as an administration officer in the corporate sector. She is experienced in local government, wine and building industries and is currently involved with several community organisations as a volunteer, including computing for seniors and the council home library service. Kath has a good knowledge of South Australia having resided in both regional and metropolitan areas of the state. She is a mother of two and a grandmother and her interests include bush walking, reading, travel, music and history.

Richard Murphy

Richard Murphy

Richard was elected to the Board of Management in 2005. Richard has served in Uniform and C.I.B. both in the metropolitan and country area. Richard was prompted to join Police Legacy due to the death or serious illness of several of his contemporaries. He feels the range of services offered to the families of members who have died whilst serving or retired is very important and intends to give as much support to Policy Legacy and it's Legatees' as he can whilst a member of the Board.

Rev. David J Marr

David Marr

After spending his formative years in South Australia, David studied for the ministry in Melbourne and was ordained in 1965. Following parish ministries in Echuca and Horsham, David served as chaplain/counsellor to Bairnsdale High School in East Gippsland before returning to Adelaide and taking appointment as Senior Welfare Officer and Chaplain to SAPOL. David has worked within SAPOL for over 25 years. He has a commitment to people, and in providing for their well being. He is pleased to be able to serve as a Board Member of Police Legacy.

Ashley Gordon

Ashley Gordon

Ashley is the Commissioner's representative on the Police Legacy Board.

During his career within SAPOL he has served in a wide variety of areas including STAR Group and several country and remote locations. His Grandmother received support from Police Legacy for a number of years, so he has personally seen the invaluable assistance that is provided. He is pleased to have the opportunity to actively contribute to Police Legacy and provide support to members in times of need.

Mark Willing (Vice President)

Mark Willing

Mark joined Legacy in early 2005 and is currently a Senior Sergeant at the Service Enhancement Branch. He commenced service in 1981 and has served in a wide variety of areas including CIB and Training. Having worked in both city and country locations, Mark has good knowledge of the role Legacy can play in assisting the Police family.

Mark has been actively involved in several community organisations and is currently on the Board of a community Hospital. Mark hopes to utilise his skills in providing ongoing support to the Board of Legacy.

Costa Anastasiou

Costa joined Police Credit Union in 2002 and was appointed Chief Executive in 2007. Costa is a qualified accountant, launching his career with a top 4 accounting firm, before moving into the banking and finance industry. Costa has undertaken a number of diverse senior management positions over his 22 years of experience, ranging from accounting and treasury to sales, marketing and strategic roles. He is looking forward to using his knowledge and skills to assist in the growth and development of Police Legacy and to ensure funding is available to continue the valuable work Police Legacy is involved in.

Kevin Beinke

Kevin Beinke

Kevin is a Sergeant of Police who joined SAPOL in 1973. He has a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and was elected to the Board in 2006. He has served in both country and metropolitan areas as a uniform officer on patrols. He has served a short time in East Timor as well. Some years ago, whilst on duty, he attended an incident where a fellow Police Officer and his wife lost their lives. He believes Police Legacy is vital for the support of Legatees and Wards and feels it is an honour to be able to assist wherever possible.

Liz McGregor

Liz Mcgregor

Liz is the Police Association of South Australia representative on the Police legacy Board. She is a Sergeant of Police in her 30th year of service. She has served in a variety of postings including uniform, CIB, Education & Training and Police Welfare Section. Liz currently has a training role at the Adelaide Local Service Area.

As a kidney transplantee of almost 20 years, Liz has enjoyed the support of the wider police family and is confident that Police Legacy serves as a vital part of this supportive network. She is therefore very pleased for the opportunity to contribute and commit to her service as a Board member of Police Legacy.

Nancy MORRIS

Nancy is the appointee of the Retired Police Officer Association of S.A. She is a police widow herself, and is pleased to be able to assist other Police Widows as a Police Legacy Board member.

Merge Presser

M Presser

Merge was appointed to the Board in 2006 and has been a member of Police Legacy since its inception in 1989. He commenced service with SAPOL in 1972 and has served in general uniform at Port Adelaide and Communications Branch. He is currently serving at Training (Communications) Section, Information Systems & Technology Service. Merge is a Life member of the Police Club of S.A. Inc. after serving on the Committee as Secretary for 10 years.

Merge is keen for Police Legacy to continue its growth and financial stability, whilst still meeting the needs of our beneficiaries, the "Police Family". He believes that all serving Police Officers should be aware of the importance and value of being a member of Police Legacy and the significance of their contributions.

Carole Johnson

C Johnson

Carole joined SAPOL in 1982 and has served in both country and metropolitan areas including Patrols, Communications, Serious Assault Section and as Victims Support Officer in Major Crime and Serious Crash Sections.

Carole was appointed to the Board in 2007 and believes she can contribute to the Board, Legatees and Wards through her skills and experience gained through working with Victims of Crime and Community Programs Section.
